Ultraviolet Sciences Inc. (UVSI), water treatment solutions use approximately 1/10th the energy of competing systems. This means energy operating costs are lowered by nearly 90%.

GOING "GREEN" CAN ALSO MEAN SAVING "THE GREEN"

Using UV as a method for water disinfection is by nature a "Green" process. There are no residuals, no harmful chemical by-products produced. But it does take energy to operate a UV water treatment system. And at times this is significant. This has been addressed with a new line of highly efficient UV water treatment products.

Ultraviolet Sciences Inc. (UVSI) introduced its new line of highly efficient UV water treatment chambers in March of 2009. Two years of engineering development, including beta trials, resulted in the release of a series of energy efficient UV treatment chambers. The patented water treatment chamber design is unique to the industry. Over 99% of the UV light energy emitted by the low pressure, high intensity, Amalgam lamp stays in the water channel performing disinfection. No other UV product comes close.

Q: But is this performance efficiency really a benefit?

A: YES! And it can be quantified in terms of saving energy and money.

UVSI took a look at a couple of ways to express efficiency. We evaluated the performance of competing UV treatment chambers, expressing water treatment performance in two ways:

  • Gallons Processed per Kilowatt-Hr
  • Dollars ($) per Gallons Processed

We analyzed the performance of a popular competing brand (Brand A) to our UVS series of treatment chambers. We analyzed this for Disinfection applications and for TOC Reduction applications. Comparisons are shown in the four graphs that follow.

What is clearly indicated by these graphs is that UVSI products can process significantly more water per kilowatt-hr. The improvement factor is 3X for the low flow systems to over 7X for the high flow systems. The savings in energy costs becomes substantial over the life of the product.

Additionally the UVSI products use fewer and shorter UV lamps. Therefore, when using UVSI products, maintenance costs are reduced because fewer lamps need to be replaced. Instead of changing 8 or 12 lamps, the end user is changing 1 or 2 lamps. The UVS series is smaller also, meaning less floor space is required for operation.

Going "Green" doesn't have to cost more. The UVSI products, when compared to competing UV products, are competitively priced and they bring an immediate return on investment. Cost analyses have shown that the UVSI products save enough money, that within three years they have paid for themselves. So for water treatment, go "Green" and use UV
